Happy Chinese New Year!!

Saturday the 28th marked the turn of a new lunar Chinese New Year! I was lucky to have the chance to celebrate it in Singapore, but not exactly with locals. The Chinese New Year (CNY) is quite different from the confetti and champagne filled New Year's Eve parties you'd find throughout the rest of the world on December 31st. It's actually a big family holiday, and all the locals return home to be with their families; therefore, CNY in Singapore's chinatown is actually a very tourist based event. Nonetheless, it was super fun to squirm through the congested streets full of people ready to watch the fireworks burst off at midnight! We even met two really sweet and funny girls from South Korea that night and got to hear about their travels! You can check the video section of the blog to see a small video of them...though I have to warn you there sadly wasn't any fire-breathing dragon fireworks like I was hoping ;)
